MANILA, Philippines - Powerade has made another import change, acquiring the services of former Texas Tech standout Martin Zeno in a hope to salvage its sagging playoffs aspiration in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Zeno, an ace Red Raider under coach Bobby Knight, was to arrive last night from the United States. He is set to take over from Russel Carter as the Tigers play the San Miguel Beermen at the Cuneta Astrodome tomorrow.
“We begged the team management that we be allowed to again look for a new import. We’re sure we would have no chance of winning if we stick with Carter,” Coca-Cola coach Bo Perasol told The STAR.
“Carter was well scouted already. He’s easy to defend as he has only one strong move,” Perasol added.
Carter averaged over 30 points in his first two games with the Tigers then his numbers dipped dramatically in the next three games.
He was only good for seven points in his farewell game, winding up his brief PBA stint with only one win against four losses.
During the pre-season, the Tigers tested Titus Ivory before enlisting Carter. (ThePhilippineStar)
